Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
